Corporal Lee Churcher of the 20th Armoured Brigade was found dead at an army base in Iraq. He was found having suffered a gunshot wound. He was given medical assistance but declared dead at the scene.
Cpl Churcher was an experienced soldier who joined the army in 1994 and after his initial posting with 42 Engineer Regiment quickly rose through the ranks. His specialist skills included geography, IT and communications and his postings reflected this.
He joined 20th Armoured Brigade, known as the Iron Fist, in September 2007 and became an integral figure at their HQ in Sennelager, Germany, mentoring units with enthusiasm and dedication.

A sunset vigil upon the sand, As a soldier leaves this foreign land
We stand alone, and yet as one, In the fading light of a setting sun
We’ve all gathered to say goodbye, To our fallen comrade who’s set to fly

The padre then calls us all to pray, The bugler has Last Post to play
The cannon roars and belches flame, We will recall, with pride, their name

Deafening silence fills the air, With each of us in personal prayer
Reveille sounds and the parade is done, The hero remembered, forgotten by none
They leave to start the journey back, In a coffin draped in the Union Jack
